The opulence of the Ambanis’ lifestyle has always fascinated us, and whatever they do makes news. A person apparently spotted a lavish dessert at one of the parties hosted by the Ambanis, which turned into a viral social media post. Twitter user “RATNISH” shared a picture of the dessert decorated with Rs. 500 notes, which the user claimed was served at the party. And it wasn’t just one serving; several of these dessert bowls were kept on a table for the guests. The user wrote, “Ambani ji ke party mein tissue paper ki jagah 500 ke notes hote hain” (At Ambanis’ party, Rs. 500 notes are served instead of tissue papers).
But one look at the picture, and we know what the dessert really is. It is the famous daulat ki chaat, which is served at a fine dining Delhi restaurant called “Indian Accent.”

Daulat ki chaat finds its origin in northern India, and Old Delhi is where people throng to try this delicacy. It is a light, airy, melt-in-mouth souffle-like dessert made of milk foam. The foam is usually topped with pistachios, khoya, and powdered sugar. Daulat ki chaat is exclusively available only during a couple of months in the winter season when milk is thick, and the foamy dessert holds together and doesn’t melt away.

Indian Accent restaurant remodelled the dessert by adding fake notes (yes, it’s all fake money), calling it the “dessert of the riches.” Foodies were quick to realise that the Twitter post actually spoke about this dessert, and the Ambanis didn’t serve money to their guests.
But the pun in the post amused users. With over 190k views, the viral post attracted various comments. Some people enlightened other users about the dish, while others made jokes about the caption of the post.

All this talk of daulat ki chaat is making us crave it. While it’s not the season, we might try making it. Thankfully, we have an easy recipe to try it out.
