King Charles, who returned to work on Wednesday following his break in Balmoral, had a some reflection to do as a new family drama erupted behind the scenes with the return of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle in Britain.
There are mixed feelings on this move as the monarch welcomes it but Prince William still holds a grudge with the Sussexes. This has brewed some friction especially as Harry continues to fight for his taxpayer-funded police protection for his family in the UK. Meanwhile, the Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor and Sarah Ferguson shame still lingers close by.
Despite the family turmoil, the King was truly able to relish the accomplishment of an important task that he set out for in 2023 during the French State Visit.
As the Fresh President Macron and First Lady visited the British Museum on Wednesday, the King not only spoke of deep friendship between the United Kingdom and France, but also celebrated the loan of the Bayeux Tapestry and thanking all those involved.
“Monsieur le Président, let me first extend my deepest appreciation to you, and to the French people, for the trust you have placed in the United Kingdom by agreeing to this unprecedented loan,” Charles said after speaking fluent French.
“I well remember our discussing this possibility during our State Visit to France in 2023; it is a particular joy therefore, to see the hope become reality.”
Charles added, ‘Je vous remercie mille fois’ which translates to “I thank you a thousand times”.
The lengthy speech also spoke of the history behind the tapestry but also weaved messages of peace and how one relies on each other.
He said that a “commonplace truth that neither of us can fully tell our own story without the other”. It could have been a sign or a hope he is also extending to his own family.
