Nick, one of the sons of Rob Reiner, had a troubled past, involving addiction. His well-known parents were desperate in their words when they trusted the experts over their son when he told them rehab was not working for him.
These conversations happened in public a decade ago when Rob and Nick worked on the 2015 semi-autobiographical film Being Charlie.
The film was inspired by the pair’s son — who served as a writer — his struggles with drug addiction and his tensions with his parents.
Doing self-reflection, Rob, at the TIFF premiere in 2015, admitted, “When Nick would tell us that it wasn’t working for him, we wouldn’t listen. We were desperate, and because the people had diplomas on their wall, we listened to them when we should have been listening to our son.”
In a separate interview at the time, he also acknowledged the process of filming repaired their bond, telling Build Series, “I mean, you know, we got into issues [but] … the whole process for me, it did make me understand him a lot more, and I think it made me a better father, hopefully it did.”
Fast-forward to now, a tragedy has struck. Rob and Michele have been found dead in their home in Los Angeles, and police arrested their son Nick in connection with their murder.
