Comparisons were drawn to a video shared during Melania Trump’s time in the White House
First Lady Jill Biden sparked backlash on Wednesday night for sharing a video on X, formerly known as Twitter, featuring dancers tapping through the festively decorated White House, themed “Magic, Wonder and Joy” this year.
In a post shared on the official @FLOTUS account, she wrote: “A bit of magic, wonder, and joy brought to you by the talented tappers of Dorrance Dance, performing their playful interpretation of The Nutcracker Suite. Enjoy!”
However, the online response was not filled with enjoyment for the musical presentation. Some comments included, “The United States of Bananas,” and “Imagine thinking this gives America the Christmas spirit.” Others criticised the video as “strange,” “bizarre,” and “freaky.”
Comparisons were drawn to a video shared during Melania Trump’s time in the White House, which some viewers praised as tasteful, seasonal, and breathtaking, in contrast to what they described as Jill Biden’s “utterly tacky, tasteless, and ANTI Christmas” display.
While the video showcased smiling dancers in vibrant costumes, prancing and tapping throughout the White House, many viewers argued that it lacked a Christmas theme entirely. Criticisms included remarks about the cost to taxpayers and accusations of the video being embarrassing and inappropriate for children. One viewer quipped, “Looks like the WH switched from cocaine to acid,” alluding to an earlier incident involving the discovery of cocaine at the executive mansion.
