Pakistan’s bowling coach, Morne Morkel, expressed confidence that Pakistan’s spinners would excel in their last Super Four match against Sri Lanka, considering the spin-friendly conditions.

Morkel stated that their spin bowlers are prepared to seize the opportunity. Moreover, they are poised to step up when the team needs them most, confident in their ability to turn the tide and rise as match-winners once again.

“The conditions are spin friendly and I think our spinners are working really hard at the moment. They will be the first to put up their hands when it is needed. They are all match-winners and experienced players. They know how to make comebacks,” Morkel said.

Morkel also voiced his concerns regarding the absence of the injured fast bowler, Naseem Shah, considering it a significant setback for the team. Nonetheless, he maintains optimism that another talented bowler will step up to fill Naseem’s role in the crucial Super Four match.

“Obviously, it is a big blow (absence of Naseem). It is unfortunate that he picked some little niggles. But what a fantastic opportunity for the guys you know coming in. After going down against India, it’s a must-win game for us tomorrow. I’m quite excited to see new guys stepping in and showing some character,” he further added.

Naseem suffered a right shoulder injury during the match against India, which unfortunately ruled him out of the tournament. Zaman Khan has been selected as his replacement.

As both Pakistan and Sri Lanka currently stand tied with two points each, they are heading into a virtual semi-final match on Thursday. The winner of this match will earn the opportunity to face India in the final scheduled for September 17 in Colombo.
